AssangeDAO must come up with a new Mission statement and goals now that Julian Assange is free

Now that Julian Assange is free, the DAO must clarify it’s Mission Statement, Vision, Goals, and Values.

The primary objective of this post is to get feedback from the community to come up with a new Mission Statement for AssangeDAO.

After we have the Mission Statement, the Vision, Goals and Values will be easier to clarify.

Current (Old) Mission Statement:

Our Mission

The mission of the AssangeDAO is to inspire a powerful solidarity network and fight for the freedom of Julian Assange.

We, the cypherpunks, are rallying to the cause of a fellow cypherpunk in distress.

‘One of the best ways to achieve justice is to expose injustice.’
— Julian Assange

Example Only:

Please brainstorm

Revised AssangeDAO Mission Statement

To fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by supporting whistleblowers and defending free speech through decentralized action.

or

To fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action.

Main causes Julian Assange is a champion of (if I missed anything let me know):

  • Truth – Exposing verifiable facts through leaks to empower the public.
  • Transparency – Forcing accountability in governments and institutions.
  • Justice – Achieving fairness by exposing abuses of power.
  • Ending Wars – Opposing conflicts (e.g., Gaza, Iraq) through exposure of war crimes.
  • Freedom of Expression / Free Speech – Defending the right to speak and publish freely.
  • Whistleblower Protection – Supporting those who leak critical information.
  • Human Rights – Protecting privacy, freedom, and dignity from state abuses.
  • Privacy and Anti-Surveillance – Opposing mass surveillance and promoting cryptographic protections.

Once the community has then brainstormed on a New Mission Statement for the DAO, the Vision, Goals, and Values can be made.

This is only an example: I know it is missing some things and perhaps the goals aren’t very good. I would really value others ideas and suggestions. This one involves spending approx 25% of the DAOs ETH.

AssangeDAO Core Framework

Mission Statement

To fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action.

Vision

A world where truth and justice prevail, whistleblowers and journalists speak freely without fear, human rights are upheld, wars are ended, and decentralized systems empower communities to resist oppression and surveillance.

Goals

Short-Term (2025–2026)

  • Enhance $JUSTICE token liquidity by using 10 ETH from the treasury to buy $JUSTICE tokens and 10 ETH from the treasury to add liquidity to a Uniswap V4 pool (pairing the acquired $JUSTICE with 10 ETH) by October 31, 2025.

  • Transition to fully on-chain governance using Tally to enhance $JUSTICE token value through increased voting utility by November 2025, ensuring all proposals and transactions are recorded on-chain, using ~1 ETH from the treasury for setup.

  • Formalize official DAO positions (listed below) in a governance document to clarify roles and enhance the DAO’s ability to move forward in multiple areas simultaneously, by December 2025.

  • Develop an Ethereum-based blockchain petition smart contract that allows users to sign on-chain to mobilize 10,000 supporters to petition global governments for Julian Assange’s pardon by December 2025, using ~5 ETH from the treasury for development and auditing.

  • Develop a smart contract that wraps Uniswap to allow users to swap for $JUSTICE with a 1% donation going to the DAO treasury, integrated directly on the DAO website, by January 2026, using ~4 ETH from the treasury for development and auditing.

  • Launch a $JUSTICE token NFT marketplace (Justice NFT Marketplace) allowing users to mint and sell NFTs for $JUSTICE, with 1% of any transaction going to the DAO treasury, by Q2 2026, to increase $JUSTICE token value and utility, using ~5-10 ETH from the treasury for development and auditing.

  • Grow AssangeDAO’s active community to 5,000 contributors by Q2 2026, using ~3 ETH from the treasury to fund the purchase of $JUSTICE tokens for rewards for onboarding and engagement activities like contests or giveaways.

  • List $JUSTICE token on at least 2 (up to 5) additional exchanges using ~3 ETH from the treasury per exchange for listing fees and marketing by February 2026, to enhance token visibility and trading volume.

  • Grow AssangeDAO’s forum and Discord and social media to enhance community engagement by Q1 2026, using ~2 ETH from the treasury to fund $JUSTICE token rewards for moderators and active contributors.

  • Partner with 1–3 organizations that Julian Assange has supported in the past who support his values, by March 2026

  • Fund legal or campaign aid for 2–5 whistleblowers/freedom fighters exposing war crimes or human rights abuses (e.g., in Gaza) with ~10 ETH from the treasury by Q4 2026, with funding decisions approved via $JUSTICE token-based governance.

Long-Term (2027–2030)

  • Achieve Julian Assange’s full legal freedom, including a pardon, by 2028, using $JUSTICE token-based governance to coordinate global advocacy efforts.
  • Support 10+ whistleblowers/freedom fighters/organizations globally with resources, legal aid, or campaigns and decentralized action by 2030, funded through ETH-to-$JUSTICE conversions from the treasury.
  • Advocate for policies protecting free speech, whistleblowers, and human rights in 10 countries, contributing to ending wars by 2030, with $JUSTICE tokens incentivizing policy research and campaigns.
  • Establish a self-sustaining fund by 2030, leveraging ETH and $JUSTICE investments in decentralized finance to perpetually support truth-telling and anti-war initiatives.
  • Develop a smart contract-based basket of cryptocurrencies or ETH assets (e.g., ETH, BTC) by 2030, where $JUSTICE holders are incentivized to hold the token through value accrual mechanisms, ensuring the $JUSTICE price increases as the basket’s value rises, using ~5-10 ETH from the treasury for development and auditing.

Core Values

  • Truth: We champion unfiltered, verifiable information to empower the public and hold power accountable.
  • Transparency: We ensure all actions and decisions are open, fostering trust and accountability.
  • Justice: We fight for fairness by exposing abuses and supporting those who challenge oppression.
  • Courage: We stand with whistleblowers and activists who risk everything for truth and peace.
  • Human Rights: We defend privacy, freedom, and dignity, opposing wars and state overreach.
  • Decentralization: We empower communities through censorship-resistant, collective action.

Official Positions

To support AssangeDAO’s operations and governance, the following roles are defined, with potential $JUSTICE token rewards to incentivize participation:

  1. Core Contributors / Core Team Members: Lead strategic initiatives, coordinate projects, and ensure mission alignment.
  2. Governance Participants / Voters: Hold $JUSTICE tokens to vote on proposals via Snapshot/Tally, shaping DAO decisions.
  3. Proposal Creators (Authors): Draft and submit governance proposals for community voting, driving DAO priorities.
  4. Treasury Managers / Multisig Signers: Manage the 200 ETH treasury via the Safe multisig, approving fund allocations.
  5. Community Managers / Moderators: Oversee Discord and forum, ensuring clean, active, and inclusive spaces.
  6. Developers / Technical Contributors: Build and maintain smart contracts (e.g., petition, NFT marketplace, Uniswap wrapper), rewarded with $JUSTICE.
  7. Marketers / Content Creators: Promote AssangeDAO’s mission and $JUSTICE token via X, blogs, and campaigns.
  8. Advisors / Subject Matter Experts: Provide expertise on legal, whistleblower, or blockchain matters to guide DAO strategy.
  9. Bounty Hunters / Task Contributors: Complete specific tasks (e.g., petition outreach, forum cleanup) for $JUSTICE rewards.
  10. Guild or Working Group Leads: Lead specialized groups (e.g., advocacy, tech) to execute short-term goals.
  11. Delegates: Represent community interests in governance, holding $JUSTICE for voting power.
  12. Ambassadors / Evangelists: Promote AssangeDAO’s mission globally, attracting supporters and contributors.

Building an NFT is a good idea.

But the construction was too fast, one by one, and the community voted to confirm it

I find you new mission statement and goals perfect! Thanks so much! Love, :mirjam. Transormational healer.

So its all in the same place Ive found comments from elsewhere so Im going to paste what Ive found all here.

Typical Statements for DAOs and Organizations (example not directly AssangeDAO related)

  1. Mission Statement
  • Defines the organization’s purpose and what it does.

  • Answers: “Why do we exist?” and “What do we aim to achieve?”

  • Example (for a DAO): “To empower decentralized governance by enabling transparent, community-driven decision-making on blockchain.”

  1. Vision Statement
  • Describes the long-term aspiration or future state the organization aims to achieve.

  • Answers: “Where are we going?”

  • Example: “A world where decentralized communities thrive, free from centralized control.”

  1. Goals (or Objectives)
  • Specific, measurable outcomes the organization works toward to fulfill its mission.

  • Often broken into short-term and long-term goals.

  • Example: “Onboard 10,000 active DAO members within two years.”

  1. Values (or Principles)
  • Core beliefs or ethical guidelines that shape the organization’s culture and decision-making.

  • Answers: “What do we stand for?”

  • Example: “Transparency, inclusivity, and decentralization.”

Our current Mission Statement is:

Our Mission

The mission of the AssangeDAO is to inspire a powerful solidarity network and fight for the freedom of Julian Assange.

What is AssangeDAO’s Mission?

AssangeDAO’s primary mission is to free Julian Assange. As cypherpunks, we aim to liberate him from the legacy justice system through decentralised efforts.

I believe now AssangeDAO has completed it’s primary mission and must vote on a new mission - perhaps ‘fight for the continued freedom and pardon of Julian Assange’ is good but perhaps that is too narrow of scope.

Discussion on aligning our mission to the objectives of Wau Holland

For Wau Holland, we must remember that the DAO raised contributions and purchased the NFT from Pak. And Pak donated the funds to Wau Holland. The DAO has no insight or partnership or control with Wau Holland.

According to Wau Holland Foundation’s website their mission is:

'The Foundation carries on the courageous works of Wau Holland (Herwart Holland-Moritz) against totalitarian structures, and for the unconditional upholding of human rights in order to reinforce the peaceful coexistence of peoples.

To this end, the Foundation promotes global freedom-of-information and informational self-determination. The objective is to archive and further Wau Holland’s enlightened body of ideas, and to make them accessible to the public in a suitable format. The Foundation also promotes worldwide scientific discourse through conferences and the dissemination of scholarly materials. In the interests of freedom-of-information, it particularly supports the distribution of materials for scientific & scholarly purposes that would otherwise be inaccessible to the public, through technical and legal methods.

The Foundation regards itself as a non-profit institution that empowers responsible individuals and organisations with the opportunity to dedicate themselves toward these goals. Donations are collected and utilized to accomplish the Foundation’s tasks / objectives.’

New Potential AssangeDAO Mission Statement

AssangeDAO is dedicated to securing a presidential pardon for Julian Assange and advancing global freedom of information, whistleblower protections, and transparency to uphold human rights. Inspired by the pursuit of truth and justice, we empower decentralized communities to advocate for Assange’s exoneration, protect those who expose systemic injustices, and promote the free flow of knowledge for public, scientific, and scholarly purposes. Through community-driven governance, we build a global solidarity network that champions press freedom, resists censorship, and fosters equitable access to information for the betterment of society.’

But perhaps that is missing some things and is too wordy.

Revised New Potential AssangeDAO Mission Statement

To fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action.

Example of defining the DAOs values

Relates to a potential VALUES statement:

Julian Assange’s values, as reflected through his work and public statements, centres on transparency, truth, and the empowerment of individuals through access to information. He champions the principle of government and institutional accountability, believing that exposing hidden truths is essential for justice and democratic integrity. Assange values freedom of expression and the press, viewing them as critical tools for challenging power structures and fostering open discourse. His commitment to protecting whistleblowers underscores his belief in the courage of those who risk personal safety to reveal systemic wrongs. Above all, Assange’s actions with WikiLeaks suggest a deep conviction in the public’s right to know, prioritizing collective awareness over secrecy to promote a more informed and equitable world.

Squirrell said:

If the DAO continues, I think the new goal / mission should be focused on the pardon of Mr. Assange, even though it could have multiple goals at the same time, if others wish so. In my opinion, it’s more efficient to focus on one single thing, rather than XX things. Yes, Julian is free, but only because he plead guilty of journalism. Until this is not resolved, Journalists are still at risk. Julian lost so many years of his life without freedom. I think he should have all the time in the world now with his kids and recover of this nightmare.

From Logan

For mission and vision, I strongly agree with Zylo’s framing:To fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action.

From Mark

Please upload the AssangeDAO logo to the website.
We should unify our logo. The official website and social media (X, Discord, and Telegram) should all use a unified logo. Consider using $Justice’s logo. A unified image will help AssangeDAO’s branding. Please update the logo on the website

If the website is to contain the Organisation Leadership team I put something together here too

Maybe a diagram of the organisation instead of names?

Regarding our mission, I want to emphasize that we need to recognize the boundaries of our capabilities — especially in the absence of Julian Assange’s direct involvement. For instance, when it comes to human rights, what can a loosely organized crypto collective truly accomplish? That feels more like a task for the UN Security Council and its five permanent members.

Cryptocurrency and cypherpunk culture are indeed more suitable as our core focus. These technology-oriented topics are more likely to build consensus. On the other hand, political issues like human rights are highly prone to division. After all, every group has its own perspective—what one community sees as a hero, another might view as a nightmare. Engaging in such sensitive areas could plant the seeds of future conflict within the community.

When it comes to philanthropy, it doesn’t seem to align well with our crypto DNA, nor do we have a robust token economy to support such contributions.

There isn’t an overriding Treasury Management/Annual Budget Allocation policy.

The DAO will need a finance policy, otherwise it won’t even be able to confirm its next annual budget. Logan has a draft proposal - which allocated the treasury into four phases. That was a start.

Some of the goals in this Mission Statement and Goals outline resemble exisiting draft proposals. Some proposals though aren’t actually included here?

MERGE
All draft proposals that have been submitted should be consolidated, analysed, prioritised into short term/medium/long term goals. Some may need to be set aside for now.

If a strong proposal idea has not been formulated into a draft proposal yet could that be posted too over the next fortnight.

Why not then place a temporary moratorium on proposal writing after mid November?

That breathing space will allow management to meet and begin to prioritise the existing backlog.

If there are essential policy ingredients missing still - then perhaps management can invite the community to write specific policy proposals only to address?

Moving to Tally or to some other tool has yet to be endorsed. It was an idea introduced to the DAO by Amir. The DAO has not been keen to move towards a decentralised tool until other issues are resolved by their vote.

In light of what GS wrote the other day and your concern about narrow scope how about expanding the Mission to

Our mission is to fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action, while supporting Ethereum projects that advance transparency, censorship resistance, and justice.

A few thoughts (trying to “yes and”, not start an argument):

That’s very broad as written and might lead to the DAO getting bogged down in a lot of proposed actions that go beyond a realistic scope for the DAO. May I suggest re-ordering it slightly?

Our mission is to fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and to support Ethereum projects that advance transparency, censorship resistance, and justice advance his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralized action.

It’s the same text, but in a slightly different order so that the DAO focuses on supporting crypto projects etc. This needs a lot less logistical coordination on the DAO’s part, and means that the DAO doesn’t have to suddenly become experts in solving these problems. It can focus on supporting those in the best position to do so, by doing what the DAO has experience doing.

Your mileage may vary on whether “justice” is the best term due to how broad it is. On one hand, it can include almost anything. On the other hand, it can include almost anything. It’s a potential two-edged sword.

There is some kind of grammar thing going on there - and justice advance his vision of achieving justice?

Yes I agree the crypto project emphasis can be elevated. It could go first.

Our mission is to support Ethereum projects that advance transparency, censorship resistance, and justice, while fighting for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon, and advancing his vision of achieving justice by championing truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and the end of wars through decentralised action.

Its merely a broad aim and direction. I don’t think this means the DAO is an expert, its more of an aspirational, philanthropic organisation. An organisation that aims for positive social impact.

I think one of the most important things for AssangeDAO right now is to rebuild trust and recognition within the Web3 community. Many people in crypto circles either don’t understand the project anymore or assume it’s inactive — or worse, see it as a scam.

To change that perception, AssangeDAO needs to show it’s active, credible, and technically aligned with the broader Ethereum ecosystem. A good start could be to collaborate more with Web3 projects — for example, co-hosting or sponsoring hackathons, joining ETHGlobal or Devcon side events, or supporting initiatives around transparency and decentralized news. These actions would help increase legitimacy, attract developers, and reconnect with the cypherpunk ideals that the DAO was founded on.

The more we engage with builders and show real contributions, the faster the narrative will shift from “is this dao still alive?” to “AssangeDAO is building again.”

Yes, technical projects are necessary. I think the technical requirements of zylo are quite good. They can convey our existence to the outside world, as we have been absent for too long. But I think the primary task is to establish a mission and set a new direction.

  1. The amnesty for Assange rests on the president’s discretion, and it may drag on for a long time or be resolved quickly. However, our mission is a long-term endeavor, and we cannot alter it after his amnesty.

  2. Logan and Zylo already have several projects supporting Assange’s amnesty, which is sufficient.

  3. The relationship between the community and Assange is like that of two lovers. Excessive devotion from one side will only elicit resentment from the other. It’s time to take care of ourselves, who have lost too much blood.

  4. Any other potentially non-compliant behavior, any behavior that could expose the community to regulatory risks, must not be included in the mission.

  5. The mission is not to instrumentalize the participants of the network. Instead, it should aim to solve a problem. What rewards can we offer to the participants of the network? An organization that cannot create value for its network participants will only fade into obscurity. The mission of an organization is to grow and expand its network, but at the same time, it must also create value for its participants.
