Hope everything goes well.
For Justice.
Back to work.
For Justice.
I made up a table of where the DAO is at and where we need to be in the next few months post GTU transition from my POV. I hope the DAO will resolve. “Back to work” - there is alot of work ahead.
CURRENT | TO DO |
---|---|
The DAO has completed the mission statement AIP -1 (except for a full pardon for Julian Assange) | A new core mission statement. |
Voting Platform – Snapshot, single majority (AIP-5) with multi sig and consensus oversight. Amir Taaki presented an idea for moving to Tally. | Revised Platform – Decide on tools for on/off chain voting to prevent inertia yet mitigate threats. Could be fully decentralised or hybrid. (Or remain as is with a focus on improving timeliness and multi-sig issues.) |
Proposals - AIP-12 determined that any DAO participant can submit proposals for changes or new initiatives during the transition phase. | Future Proposals - Who can be authors. What replaces the GTU re assessment and validation. Standardise the structure of the proposal template and add to documentation. Ties in with a new voting protocol. |
Communication – We have Discord, Telegram, Twitter, Website. Forum is designated as the official place for announcements and discussion. Random schedule appears to exist for technical maintenance and payment to providers. Random moderation and rules across all communication. | Revised Communication – address communication and moderation issues.Consider costs. Determine team roles for – marketing and moderation, if necessary. Document procedures and guidelines. |
Projects – the current project is Governance transition. Zylo solved the display of the Clock NFT asset. | New Projects – to be sustainable the DAO needs a new core mission and a revenue stream. Ideas to boost financial growth, establishment of annual budgets with risk analysis. Obstacles – personnel engagement, technical experts for implementation, Wau Holland issue. |
Great work!
I’ve been brainstorming ideas for new projects. These are just some ideas, and I’d like to emphasize that all decisions would follow our formal voting process. Perhaps we can refine the best of these ideas into working concepts or demos.
Website Redesign
A revamped AssangeDAO website could include:
•Integration with CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap APIs to display live JUSTICE token data.
•Integration with Uniswap API for direct JUSTICE token swaps on AssangeDAO.org.
•Integration with Snapshot.box for governance proposal voting directly on our site (e.g., compare All Proposals | MoonDAO vs. https://snapshot.box/#/s:tomoondao.eth).
•A donate button for direct ETH contributions to the DAO treasury.
•Display of the Clock NFT, similar to ClockNFT.com.
•Updated Mission Statement, Goals, Roadmap, and more.
•Listings of upcoming projects (for fundraising) and planned initiatives (for fund allocation).
Project Idea: Freedom Wall
A simple app on our website that lets users write messages honoring Julian Assange’s freedom, stored on the Ethereum blockchain.
•Messages are permanently recorded and viewable on our site or via Etherscan.
•Requires a minimum donation of 0.01 ETH (~$16.39 USD), with 100% going to the DAO treasury.
•Users must hold at least 100,000 JUSTICE (~$10 USD) to write messages.
•Gas fees apply, estimated at $7–10+ in ETH per message (up to 280 characters, tweet-length).
•Website could sort messages by “Newest to Oldest” or by donation amount to encourage larger contributions.
Project Idea: List JUSTICE Token on More Exchanges
JUSTICE is currently listed on MEXC and Bitfinex only.
•Identify additional exchanges open to listing JUSTICE.
•Research listing requirements and any associated fees to be covered by the DAO treasury.
•If funds are needed, submit a proposal for community voting.
Project Idea: Register the DAO as a Formal Entity
This may be necessary if Wau Holland considers donating remaining ETH (donated by Pak) to AssangeDAO. As a German charity, they likely can’t “return” funds to the DAO but might donate to a legal entity with aligned goals. I have no inside knowledge of how Wau Holland operates or if they have even discussed this.
•Consult experts (e.g., Silke Noa) to develop a proposal for community voting.
•Estimate costs and fees, and propose using DAO treasury funds (subject to community vote).
Project Idea: Pardon Assange Campaign
Explore how the DAO and its members can advocate for Julian Assange’s full pardon.
Options include:
•An online petition using blockchain for signatures (potentially free if stored off-chain, or with ETH gas fees if on-chain).
•Financially supporting an organization campaigning for Assange’s pardon.
Project Idea: T-Shirt/Sticker Store
•Create an official DAO shop (or find a 3rd party to do it), either via a traditional e-commerce platform (e.g., WooCommerce) or a custom Ethereum dApp accepting ETH or JUSTICE.
•Optional: Each sale could mint an NFT of the purchased t-shirt/sticker.
•Legal/tax considerations: Would require a registered entity to conduct business, unless managed by a third party that donates a portion of sales to the DAO or pays a licensing fee for using DAO imagery.
•Requires permission from Assange or his legal team to use his name/image.
•If accepting JUSTICE or ETH, the business would need to convert it to fiat to cover operational costs (e.g., third-party printing/shipping).
•Could greatly improve the DAO’s visibility and potentially raise a small amount of funds, but more artwork/graphics design would likely be required.
•Alternative is to find a 3rd party who would sell AssangeDAO related t-shirts/stickers and donate a portion of each sale to the DAO treasury - in exchange the DAO could promote it.
Project Idea (Future): Bridge JUSTICE Token to other chains
AssangeDAO’s JUSTICE token (ERC-20) could expand its reach by bridging to other blockchains, enhancing accessibility and aligning with our values of free speech, privacy, and decentralization. (Without increasing the total supply of JUSTICE tokens)
Pros:
•Broader adoption and liquidity for JUSTICE token.
•Access to privacy-focused or scalable ecosystems.
•Strengthens DAO’s mission by leveraging diverse chains.
Cons:
•Bridging risks (e.g., smart contract vulnerabilities).
•Potential governance fragmentation across chains.
•Learning curve for community on new ecosystems.
•Likely require a custom smart contract to be developed and audited for a fee.
Possible Chains:
•Solana: Scalable, low-cost, supports activism but less decentralized with VC backing.
•Secret Network (Cosmos): Privacy-by-default, ideal for protecting activists, but smaller ecosystem.
•Polygon: Ethereum-compatible, low fees, scalable, though moderately decentralized.
Project Idea: Decentralized WikiLeaks Archive
•Build a decentralized, censorship-resistant archive of WikiLeaks documents using IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) and Ethereum for metadata storage. The archive would be accessible via the AssangeDAO website.
Implementation:
Store document hashes on Ethereum or Polygon to ensure immutability, with full files pinned on IPFS for redundancy.
•Develop a simple dApp on the AssangeDAO website for users to browse and verify documents.
•Partner with open-source communities to ensure legal compliance (e.g., only hosting public-domain data).
Benefits:
•Preserves Assange’s legacy by ensuring WikiLeaks’ data remains accessible despite censorship.
•Aligns with cypherpunk values of decentralization and resistance to centralized control.
•Enhances the DAO’s visibility as a hub for transparency and activism.
Challenges:
•Legal risks if hosting sensitive material
•IPFS pinning and Ethereum storage incur costs, requiring treasury funding or external fundraising.
•Limited mainstream adoption of IPFS may reduce accessibility for non-technical users.
•A decentralized archive directly supports Assange’s mission of transparency and counters censorship, leveraging blockchain and IPFS to ensure data permanence.
Project Idea: NFT Fundraising Campaign
Launch a series of limited-edition NFTs to raise funds for AssangeDAO and promote Assange’s pardon. Each NFT could represent a piece of art, a historical moment from WikiLeaks, or a free speech symbol, with proceeds going to the DAO treasury.
•Collaborate with an artist/artists (e.g., like the DAO did with Pak) to create unique designs.
•Mint NFTs on Ethereum using OpenSea or a custom AssangeDAO marketplace.
•Require buyers to hold a minimum amount of JUSTICE tokens (e.g., 50,000) to participate, boosting token utility.
or
Project Idea:AssangeDAO NFT Art Contest
Community-driven art contest for digital artworks celebrating Assange’s freedom, free speech, or WikiLeaks, with winning pieces minted as NFTs and proceeds supporting the DAO treasury.
•Winning Designs could be voted on using AssangeDAO Snapshot
•Prize in ETH for the top designs from the DAO Treasury
•Winning designs could be auctioned or sold as NFTs to raise funds
I like those ideas. The Freedom Wall that’s honestly so clever.
I think the Assange Award*, which was a past idea - should advance one day. I imagine aluminis such as Julian, GS, HH, AT, SN et al could be part of the judging panel. Or any of the other original founders…Promotional material and podcast opportunities. Something like the cyber universe version of the Nobel Prize (maybe!!). Good for highlighting the AssangeDAO brand. Could recognise individuals, innovative products and platforms. Could be an online ticketed event.
*Also requires permission from Assange for use of his name.
Re Wau Holland potential - perhaps a created subDAO of the AssangeDAO might be sufficient? Have been reading about the DAO-Specific Entity (DSE). Described here - DAO 3.0: Ultimate Legal Structuring for DAOs in 2025 and Beyond | Aurum
Thanks zylo, I think registering the DAO as a formal legal entity is a historic step, it will bring in revenue and enable the DAO to do more. This is a factor that has prevented some previous ideas from being carried out.
As far as I know, wormhole is a good cross-chain tool for Solana with proven technology. I think this could be a case study.
These ideas revolve around Assange and his career and try to extend his reach. That’s pretty cool.
zylo, Very good, we will fully support you in turning these ideas into reality, go for it.
A very comprehensive and perfect proposal, very worth looking forward to. thanks to zylo for his efforts.
What is your current voting platform preference for future Assange DAO Governance?
- Snapshot - as is
- Snapshot - with additonal features re timeliness and multi sig protocols
- Tally
