[Proposal] AIP-18: Update AssangeDAO Mission Statement

Summary
This proposal seeks to update and redefine the mission of AssangeDAO, now that the DAO’s original objective : contributing to the freedom of Julian Assange has been achieved.

To align the DAO with its next chapter and provide clarity for all future initiatives, this proposal presents two potential mission statements for the community to vote on.

The mission option receiving the highest Snapshot voting support will become the official mission of AssangeDAO.

Rationale
AssangeDAO was formed with a singular and urgent goal: to support the freedom of Julian Assange. With that goal now fulfilled, the DAO must establish a clear, forward-looking mission that:

Defines a shared long-term direction

Guides future proposals, treasury strategy, and partnerships

Re-activates the community with a renewed sense of purpose

Restores external confidence in the DAO’s relevance and future impact

Mission Options

Option 1: “Support Ethereum-aligned projects that advance transparency, justice, human rights, and the ongoing fight for Assange’s full freedom
Support Ethereum-based projects that advance transparency, censorship-resistance, and justice.
Continue contributing to the fight for Julian Assange’s full freedom, including his pardon.
Advance Assange’s vision of achieving justice through truth, transparency, free speech, whistleblower protection, human rights, and ending war through decentralized action.
Core Themes: Assange values + Ethereum values, justice technology, human rights, decentralized activism.

Option 2: “Build a decentralized engine for truth and freedom by supporting global initiatives that advance transparency and human rights.”
Build a decentralized engine for truth and freedom — funding, developing, and supporting projects, tools, initiatives, and voices that advance transparency, free expression, and human rights worldwide.
Core Themes: tools + activism + amplification, long-term human freedom infrastructure.

Option 3: Abstain

Voting Method

  • Voting will take place on Snapshot.

  • Token-weighted voting using $JUSTICE.

  • The mission option with the highest votes will become the new official mission of AssangeDAO.

Once approved, the new mission will be integrated into all official DAO materials and serve as a reference for proposal alignment.

Conclusion

This vote marks a defining milestone for AssangeDAO.
The mission chosen will shape the DAO’s purpose, influence, and how its treasury and collective energy are used moving forward.

The decision we make now will determine the future identity, impact, and legacy of AssangeDAO.

great job! Keep driving forward with this positive action.

I think it’s a good idea to vote on the AssangeDAO Mission.

At first I was going to say this is too vague, not defined enough, but I think something general like this is actually needed. However I do not really understand the difference between option #1 and #2.

Clearly option #3 is hinting at moving away from ‘Assange’ brand entirely - transforming the DAO into something else - e.g. JusticeDAO - which definitely should be an option for people to vote.

But there is one problem here, if 30% of people vote for option #1 and 30% of people vote for option #2, and 40% of people vote for option #3, option #3 would pass even though 60% of the votes want to remain Assange focused.

I think we should simplify it into 2 options only (plus abstain)

The new mission is Assange’s future development goals and direction. The plan proposed by Logan and zylo is excellent, and we all support it. Please let the community vote to make a decision. Thank you for your contributions.

Based on Zylo’s suggestion, I’ve revised and refined the previous options. They are now consolidated into the following three updated choices:

Option 1: “Support Ethereum-aligned projects that advance transparency, justice, human rights, and the ongoing fight for Assange’s full freedom

Option 2: “Build a decentralized engine for truth and freedom by supporting global initiatives that advance transparency and human rights.”

Option 3: Abstain

Based on the feedback from core members, there is still room to refine and improve the mission proposal. I’ve temporarily withdrawn it and will republish the updated version once the revisions are complete.
