The nomination of moderator and the administration of community - Draft of Governance Framework 001(DGF 001)

The nomination of moderator

In terms of the administration of community, any new moderator, could via mode of self-nomination, be approved by the team of moderators.

The approved moderator should possess the personal qualities, including being passionate towards the affairs of community, having patience in treating every member of community and having great capability in communicating as well as moderating among the members within the community.

The moderator should establish internal assessment system. When there is abuse of power by any moderator, such as prohibiting anyone from speaking or making comment without due cause, expelling anyone at will, harassing or insulting community members and contravening any other community rules, other moderators within the community must convene internal meeting among moderators to handle such issue.

The administration of community

Any actions of harassing or insulting community members, making hate speech and any forms of discrimination should not be tolerated.

Healthy discussions within the community are highly encouraged where community members are allowed to rationally voice out their opinions and interact among one another.

Any forms of advertisement are strongly prohibited.

Anyone contravening any community rules would receive verbal warning and could be prohibited from speaking or making comment. Serious or continuous breach of community rules would induce expulsion.

Anyone observing or discovering any contravention of community rules by member is having responsibility to lodge report to moderator as soon as possible for the sake of preserving a healthy atmosphere of community.

The previous ban could be lifted after the aforementioned Code of Conduct (CoC) or community rules are approved.

Great! Thank you so much for your work on this Andrew.

What is insulting?

I said that Zylo makes mistakes, and doesn’t think about the repercussions of their actions, and have also criticized Amir for his anarchist activities.

What is hate speech?

Amir stated:

Source: DarkFi The Coming Storm Amir Taaki, Rose O'Leary, Ivan Jelincic - YouTube

Not only does he imply that he is going to cause the demise of the powerful, but it appears he stopped himself from nearly praising Hitler.

any forms of discrimination should not be tolerated.

Then why does Silke Noa state that she wants to discriminate against members of the United States of America, so that they cannot be multi-sig members?

Hello @Andrew I think that what you have drafted sounds pretty good but it’s missing some details - I made a revision below, adding more details on termination and voting requirements. I also made a few grammatical improvements in the English version.

The moderation team

Nomination of a moderator

In terms of the administration of community, any new moderator, could via self-nomination, be approved by the existing team of moderators. If there is not consensus among the moderation team on the admission of the nominated moderator, a 75% approval vote among the existing moderation team will mean the candidate can be admitted.

The candidate moderator should possess the personal qualities, including being passionate towards the affairs of the community, having patience in treating every member of the community fairly, and having great communication skills.

It is possible for the moderation team to cap the total number of moderators so the team can better self-manage and not accept any more applicants until others have resigned or are terminated.

Checks and balances for moderators

The moderation team should establish an internal assessment system. When there is an abuse of power by any moderator, such as prohibiting a community member from speaking or making comment without due cause, expelling anyone at will, harassing or insulting community members and contravening any other community rules, other members of the moderation team must convene an internal meeting among moderators to handle such issue.

Termination of moderators

On a periodic basis, the team of moderators should review the team of approved moderators and consider the removal of inactive members who are no longer part of the community.

Additionally, if a moderator abuses their power too much, they may potentially be voted to be removed by the moderation team.

If there is not consensus among the moderation team on the termination of a moderator, a 75% approval vote among the existing moderation team will mean the moderator will be terminated.

The administration of community (Code of Conduct)

Any actions of harassing community members, making hate speech, and any form of discrimination occurring within our communication mediums will not be tolerated.

Healthy discussions within the community are highly encouraged where community members are allowed to rationally voice out their opinions and interact among one another.

Any forms of advertisement are strongly prohibited.

Anyone contravening any community rules would receive a verbal or written warning and could be prohibited from speaking or making comment in our communication mediums. Serious or continuous breach of community rules would induce expulsion.

Anyone observing or discovering any contravention of these community rules should submit a report to one of the moderators as soon as possible, for the sake of preserving a healthy atmosphere in the community.

Previous bans could be lifted after the aforementioned Code of Conduct (CoC) or community rules are approved.

You should have taken the time to elaborate on what that definition of “insulting”, “hate speech”, and “discrimination”, but honestly I would remove the insulting all together, because adults are supposed to be able to deal with sharp words. This safe space mentality is only used to stifle people from speaking their minds, and prevents the listeners from actually understanding how people feel, about what decisions have been made.

Think for example how Putin is claiming to be “DeNazifying” Ukraine, as if the ends justify the means, and think about whether the ends “someone’s hurt feelings”, justifies living in an echo chamber and silencing people.

Thanks for your feedback. I made an edit to remove “insulting” as I agree that it is confusing to include that and the other items seem comprehensive enough to cover the types of insults that shouldn’t be tolerated.

If you have any suggested edits to elaborate on the other points I think it would be fine to include them.

Nomination of a moderator

In terms of the administration of community, any new moderator, could via self-nomination, be approved by the existing team of moderators. If there is no consensus among the moderation team on the admission of the nominated moderator, a 50% approval vote among the existing moderation team will mean the candidate can be admitted.

Lower threshold (50%) is suggested due to the reason that it is highly impossible that the candidate moderator could be known by many members among the existing moderation team, except by a few moderators within that particular community.

The candidate moderator should possess the personal qualities, including being passionate towards the affairs of the community, having patience in treating every member of the community fairly, and having great communication skills.

On a periodic basis, the team of moderators should review the team of approved moderators and consider the removal of inactive moderators who are no longer part of the community.

Following the internal meeting among moderators, any moderator who abuses power could be voted by the moderation team to be terminated.

If there is no consensus among the moderation team on the termination or removal of a moderator, a 75% approval vote among the existing moderation team will mean the moderator will be terminated or removed.

well done!thank you! support!

This is a great proposal that will help get the community on track.

This is also another very good idea that I wish would be written up as a proposal soon.

I’d like to see a mod team that is also quite diverse in nationality.

I’m new here, have only read back a couple months in General; but I’m confused about the ‘hate speech’ ideas. The link provides no evidence of endorsing that man (is there evidence elsewhere?); and maybe I just need to learn the DAO’s norms, but is it helpful to suggest otherwise?
