Oboré and other institutions that defend democracy, press freedom and human rights will hold the celebration of Journalist’s Day this Saturday, April 9, 2022, starting at 11 am, at Vladimir Herzog Memorial Square, in São Paulo. The event includes the delivery of the Audálio Dantas Trophy - Indignação, Coragem, Esperança , which honors professionals who have distinguished themselves in the defense of journalism.
Supported by Abraji , this year’s award will go to Julian Assange, journalist and founder of Wikileaks, and the Consortium of Press Vehicles. Representatives of the honorees will receive the trophy, which features the figure of Saint George mounted on his dragon, wielding a camera and a microphone. The awards will be held on two occasions, the first on Saturday and the other on April 23, 2022.
The program also foresees the enthronement of eleven plaques with the names of the 1,006 journalists who signed the Manifesto “In the Name of Truth” in 1975. The document questioned the circumstances of the death of journalist Vladimir Herzog and pointed out that his death had been “a tragedy that traumatized not only our category, but the conscience of the entire nation”.
To close the tribute cycle, there will be a tribute to the graphic artist Elifas Andreato, who died on March 29, 2022, and author of the three works present at the event.
